Your wedding invitations work as an introduction for your guests to see what to expect on your wedding day. It’s primary purpose is to provide your guest with important information like the who, where and when, but it should also reflect your personality and suggest your wedding aesthetic vision. There are plenty of wedding invitation trends, something new pops up every now and then and a few old trends like rustic wedding invitations or vintage wedding invitations tend to stick around. Here are some of our favourites that will be sticking around for a while.

Vellum Stock

Vellum, translucent, see through paper, whatever you would like to call it! We are loving this paper trend. Vellum is a thin and translucent stock, often used as a secondary card, that can help add depth and layers to your wedding suite. It has a soft, dreamy feel to it, looks super modern chic, it’s extremely versatile and in terms of wedding invitations, there’s endless ways to use it. It’s a great way to add a splash of colour and intrigue to any minimal and simple wedding invitation designs.

We have seen many couples getting creative with this paper for their invitations, it is most commonly used as an overlay to the wedding invitation. It can also be turned into a vellum sleeve wrap, also known as vellum gatefold invitation wrap, or belly band and used as an elegant way of packaging your wedding invitation cards to tie the whole suite together.

To get an elegant luxe look, try pairing vellum paper with another color, textile or patterned designs. You could also print on the vellum itself and it will be a subtle way to showcase an illustration, the honourees of the wedding or even a beloved quote.

Die Cut Invitations

The other upcoming trend in wedding invitations to “die” for… are die cut shaped invitations! This is not a new trend at all, die cuts have been in and out for a while and the reason why it’s taking off again is because of the modern shapes that have been introduced to us. Die cut wedding invitations are no longer about tacky lace or swirly borders, couples are playing with angles, half arches and moon shapes.

Print on wood

Love the rustic themed wedding look and feel? Send out invitations printed on wood to really wow your guests and show them what to expect! Wood is a clever paper alternative that has a low carbon footprint, requires little energy to produce, is biodegradable, sustainable and the list can just go on. Each piece of wood has its own grain and colouring that can’t be reproduced in mass so each wedding invitation will be unique and individual.

Dark and Moody

It’s slowly dawning on us that the wedding dress doesn’t need to be white anymore, modern brides are opting for a darker colored dress and opting for a moodier, more romantic wedding and the best way to reflect your wedding vision is by bringing the theme to your wedding invitations. Moody and romantic wedding invitations focus a lot on the colour black, mixed with dark florals and beautiful calligraphy. White and gold metallics or foils are usually used to contrast the text to allow your guest to see the information clearly.
